Trump Elects Amy Coney Barrett to Supreme Court docket: Senior GOP Sources

Senior Republican sources have claimed President Trump will nominate Amy Coney Barrett to fill the Supreme Court position.

Sources: Barrett was "the plan all along"

CNN reported Friday afternoon that several senior Republicans have said Barrett will be Trump's third candidate for the Supreme Court.

The President will make the official announcement on Saturday afternoon.

The sources stressed that the president could make a last-minute change, but that the "machinery was moving" for Barrett to accept the nomination.

According to CNN, the White House has refused to comment on the speculation.

“She was the plan all along. She is the most outstanding and most qualified by traditional standards. It has the strongest support among right-wing conservatives who have dedicated their lives to the court, ”said a former senior administration official.

"She will be the major contributor to the court's case law in the years and decades to come," the official continued.

It is unclear whether Barrett has been told she is the intended candidate.

A strong conservative voice for SCOTUS

Barrett has a long track record of solid conservative decisions during her tenure as a judge on the 7th Court of Appeals, where she has sat since 2017.

She has said abortion is "always immoral" and has voted on decisions as such.

She endorsed the dissenting ruling in the Box vs Planned Parenthood of Indiana case and adhered to laws that required doctors to notify parents of any minors who opted for an abortion.

It is likely that their devout Catholic beliefs played a role in their opinions.

"She is the perfect combination of a brilliant lawyer and a woman who can bring the argument to court that may contradict the views of the sitting judges," said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List.

Barrett has always advocated the second change. In a 2019 case, Barrett said denial of the right to bear arms for all nonviolent offenders makes the second amendment a "second class right."

She also defended the Trump administration's "public charges" of banning legal immigrants from entering the country who can receive and rely on federal benefits, and disagreed with the rest of the panel.

Democrats don't want them in the Supreme Court

It's clear Barrett is a heavily conservative choice for the Supreme Court, and many leftists are not pleased.

Robert Reich, Secretary of Labor under President Bill Clinton, lamented that it would "include a majority to overthrow Roe v Wade".

Make no mistake: Amy Coney Barrett would win a majority to support Roe v. Overturning calf. She'll find out what's left of our campaign finance and voting rights laws. Environmental protection, immigration rights, LGBTQ + rights and limits to corporate power would disappear. https://t.co/AfR2Xz480W

The human rights campaign said Barrett had a "track record of anti-LGBTQ rhetoric" which argued against "trans rights, marriage equality and reproductive rights." Therefore "she shouldn't be in the Supreme Court".

It's no surprise Trump is looking to nominate Amy Coney Barrett, a judge with a track record of anti-LGBTQ rhetoric.

She has spoken out against trans rights, marriage equality, and reproductive rights – and she shouldn't be on the Supreme Court. #OurCourt https://t.co/D4xUWcYa4I
