The 2020 Vice Presidential Debate

0

Despite warnings from health experts, Vice President Mike Pence and Senator Kamala Harris will face each other in the first and only 2020 Vice Presidential Debate on Wednesday evening in Salt Lake City, Utah.

USA Today Washington Office Manager Susan Page will host the debate, which will take place from 9:00 pm to 10:00 pm [CET]. With President Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Joe Biden being the two oldest presidential candidates in American history, this year's Vice Presidential Debate takes on additional meaning.

This is only worse because Trump has just spent three days in the hospital and is still being treated for Covid-19, which makes it feel like the vice president may have to take over the president's duties. Page could ask candidates about succession as well as more general leadership issues in public Health emergency.

After exposing Pence to Trump and other high-ranking government officials who tested positive for the coronavirus, the question arose whether the debate would still take place in person. Candidates are positioned 13 feet apart with a plexiglass barrier between them. Neither campaign called for a long-distance debate.

The two remaining presidential debates have not yet been concluded. They are scheduled for October 15 in Miami, Florida and October 22 in Nashville, Tennessee.
