Ilhan Omar and a Democratic socialist group shared the call from Missouri Congressional candidate Cori Bush to "defuse the Pentagon" to pay for expanded social services.
"When you're having a bad day, just think about all of the social services we'll fund after we defeat the Pentagon," said Bush, a Democrat running Show-Me in the 1st district of the state.
Omar (D-MN), an advocate of defusing law enforcement and breaking down the police force in her district, shared the tweet with her followers.
Fox News reports that People for Bernie, a pro Bernie Sanders group closely linked to other progressive groups such as National Nurses United and Democratic Socialists of America, has also expressed support for the plan.
"The Senate budget chairman after defusing the Pentagon," they wrote along with a video from Sanders where they simply said, "Bye, bye."

"I will never fund a police station that continues to brutalize us," the congresswoman said to a cheering mob in June.
"And I'll never stop saying that not only do we have to divest in the police, we have to completely dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department."

Ilhan Omar and the Defund Movement
Omar's efforts to defeat the Minneapolis police have returned to bite the community.
At a meeting last month to combat an increase in violent crime – Fox News reports including daylight carjacking, robberies, assaults and shootings – councilors found that police operations had fallen sharply.
Earlier this week, a group of Minneapolis residents filed a lawsuit against the city, arguing that there aren't enough police officers to keep people safe.

"Defund the Pentagon" seems like an odd tact for a party that has consistently warned of a threat from Russia since President Trump took office.
Intercept's Glenn Greenwald reported in July that the House Democrats had joined the Republicans in the war to "curb Trump's planned withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan and Germany."
In 2019, more than 50 members of the Democratic House issued an open letter to the president denouncing his decision to withdraw US troops from northeast Syria.
The campaign for President Trump ran a devastating ad in September, some of which highlighted that Democrats are stepping down from their party because of opposition to endless, costly American wars and those who support freedom.
"I've always been very anti-war and now Trump is – by far – the anti-war candidate," explains an outgoing Democrat.
If Omar, Bush and Sanders were really concerned about bloated military spending, they would back the more moderate candidate in Donald Trump.
