Nikki Haley apparently waved the white flag of surrender to former President Trump in 2024, saying that if he runs again, she will step aside.
Haley, a one-time ally of Trump as ambassador to the United Nations, spoke to reporters earlier this week during a visit to South Carolina.
When asked by an Associated Press reporter whether Haley would support the former president should he elect to run in 2024, she replied, "Yes."
A follow-up question resulted in a more positive transfer of power to the Republican nomination process.
"I wouldn't run if President Trump was running and I would talk to him about it," Haley replied. "We'll talk about that at some point when that decision has to be made."

Haley admits Trump in 2024
Haley's 2024 comments mark a shift from when she shot Donald Trump for his alleged role in the Capitol riots in early January.

In fact, she essentially called it a Republican Party failure.
“We have to acknowledge that he has let us down. He went a path that he shouldn't have, and we shouldn't have followed him, and we shouldn't have listened to him, ”she told a Politico reporter.
"And we can't let that ever happen again."
Haley was also pretty confident at the time that Trump would never run for president again.
"He won't run for federal office again … I don't think he'll be in the picture. I don't think he can. He's fallen that far," she insisted.

Haley's political future
Ever since Haley made those comments on Trump, she's been caught in a mess.
In February, shortly after her comments surfaced, reports suggested she requested a meeting with the former president, but it was denied.

Shortly thereafter, rumors began circulating that Haley was isolated after her attack on Trump.
Despite being recognized as a 2024 contender, Haley did not appear at last year's Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).
She reportedly declined an invitation, citing a planning conflict.
It's hard to say what angle Haley is playing here. Maybe she is confident that Trump won't run in 2024 and feigns support. Maybe she came to her senses.
Or maybe she realizes that Trump supporters are the future of the Republican Party and they have to deliver so that they themselves have a political future.

A recent poll shows that a large majority of Republican voters want Trump to play a big role in the party's future, including running again in 2024.
Fifty-three percent said they would vote Trump as a GOP candidate, compared to six percent for Haley.
Multiple polls show that Trump voters and their significant presence in the voting booth are leaning towards Trump-like Republicans and away from established Republicans.
