Senators advise Biden to not waste a lot time speaking to Republicans in regards to the infrastructure bundle
Joe Biden came into office with some big ideas. The first and most important has already been covered. The new president passed a massive relief bill that helped millions of Americans. The relief bill, while hugely popular with all Americans, did not win a single Republican yes vote.
Biden has achieved his next goal, which is to pass an important infrastructure bill. Like the stimulus package, the idea of infrastructure is popular with voters from all parties. However, GOP senators are already attacking the bill. With this in mind, the Democratic Senators urge the President not to waste too much time negotiating.
Bernie Sanders said: "Personally, I don't think Republicans are serious about addressing the major crises in this country. Maybe I'm wrong, but we certainly won't wait indefinitely. We will move forward quickly. Do you have something to say? Now is the time to say it. "
Richard Blumenthal has similar feelings. He told reporters, "H.Of course, we should be skeptical of Republicans. Mitch McConnell certainly gave good cause for skepticism as he made Biden proposals and even adamantly resisted. "
And Elizabeth Warren weighed: "It is the President's responsibility to keep this process going. We cannot end up in months with no real progress and no real infrastructure bill. "
On Monday, Biden met with Republicans and Democrats to discuss the package. He told reporters before the meeting: "I am ready to compromise, ready to see what we can do and what we get into. "
