A new House Democracy bill will remove all Confederate statues from the U.S. Capitol.
The bill comes from Majority Whip Rep. Jim Clyburn, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer and Rep. Barbara Lee:
. @ RepBarbaraLee @LeaderHoyer @WhipClyburn "Introducing legislation to remove the bust of Chief Justice Roger B. Taney and the Confederate statues from public display in the US Capitol."
– John Bresnahan (@bresreports) May 7, 2021
Confederate busts and statues should never have been displayed in the Capitol. People who try to overthrow the federal government should not be honored at the seat of power.
While the Fox News crowd will howl, the reaction should be a lot less divisive without the now-former president dumping gas and starting a match on every cultural fire in the country that is no longer in office.
This move is long overdue as America shouldn't honor traitors who tried to destroy the country, be it centuries or months ago.
