McEnany shoots back
McEnany told Fox News that it wasn't Psaki's comments that impressed her, but that Psaki made them public.
"I took my conversations with the president and my advice and advice to him as sacrosanct," said McEnany. “I am assuming you will always advise a president on the news climate and news cycle, but I think if you send the press strategy out to the American public you can run into problems and create your own news cycle like this comment has. "He would ask questions whether you wanted to or not," McEnany explained. "I think he enjoyed the jokes and back and forth with the press." Of course there were times when I said, "You know, maybe you won't take questions today," but I almost think that those days he was most fond of asking questions. "
"It's not that she advises him not to ask questions because I did it with President Trump, but it's more that she transferred her strategy than her private conversations with the president," she added.
McEnany then said that if she said something like that as a press officer, "it would have created a news cycle on CNN and MSNBC." She added that it appears that Biden "enjoys" answering reporters' questions, which means that Psaki is "out of sync" with her boss because of her comments.
"I don't think President Biden is pulling away from the questions," McEnany concluded. "I really think that – and Jen Psaki said that himself – there is a mentality of controlling the back and forth to make sure he's not in that free run and tournament dynamic with the press, and I think that is It's pretty clear. That's the press strategy, but to be honest, I think President Biden – he seems to be sort of enjoying and enjoying the moments. "
