Senate majority leader Schumer announced another vote on the law creating an independent 1/6 commission.
Video from Majority Leader Schumer:
Schumer said in the Senate:
This morning the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee, in collaboration with the Senate Rules of Procedure, released a joint report on aspects of the January 6th tragedy. I particularly welcome Chairs Peters and Klobuchar for the good work they have done with their senior members.
The report drew some notable conclusions, particularly regarding information gathering and communication errors that occurred on and before January 6th.
But just as blatant is what the report did not take into account. Indeed, what she was not allowed to take into account. The report investigated, reported or barely mentioned the root cause – the real impetus – for the January 6 attack.
Aside from a brief reference to former President Trump's comments on the Ellipse, Senate Republicans insisted that the report exclude anything to do with the cause of the uprising.
If anything, the joint report by the Homeland Security and Rules Committees reinforced the case for an independent commission on January 6th.
We had the perfect opportunity to create such a commission at the end of the last session, before the Republicans opposed a partisan filibuster. Despite the fact that the Democrats have worked with Republicans in the House and Senate for weeks to create a bipartisan, focused and uncompromising commission. Despite the fact that Spokesman Pelosi complied with every major request by Republicans about the structure of the commission. And although here in the Senate I supported the changes proposed by my colleague Senator Collins.
As the Big Lie continues to spread and confidence in our elections continues to decline, it is vital – vital – that we keep trustworthy, independent records of what happened on January 6th and what caused it. Therefore, I reserve the right to introduce laws for an independent, non-partisan commission for further voting in the Senate.
With Senate Republicans trying to convince America that the real problem is blacks protesting police violence rather than white local terrorists trying to overthrow the government, Senator Schumer is not going to let the GOP off the hook for them Crimes against America on 1/6
Republicans want America to forget January 6th.
They don't want to talk about the 2022 midterm elections, but Chuck Schumer will see to it that America is constantly reminded that Republicans are on the terrorists' side by forcing them to vote again on the 1/6 commission.
