One of the top Trump holdovers in the Justice Department is stepping down in the first house cleaning step because the DOJ is spying on the Democrats.
The AP reported:
The Justice Department's senior national security officer resigns after it is revealed that the Department has secretly confiscated files from Democrats and media representatives.
John Demers will be stepping down late next week, a Justice Department official told The Associated Press on Monday. The officer was unable to discuss the matter publicly and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity.
Demers is one of the few Trump DOJ officials to remain in the Biden administration, but there are questions about his knowledge and involvement in spying on Democrats, staff and their families on the House Intelligence Committee.
Some say Demers intended to resign anyway, but the DOJ's internal investigation drove him out the door quicker.
It is a clear signal that Attorney General Garland is listening to the growing public outrage. The Justice Department's overdue house cleaning appears to have begun and Demers shouldn't be the last person involved in the spying to be shown the door.
