TX Governor Abbott vows to arrest Democrats who have fled the state and drag them back to the Capitol
Governor Greg Abbott criticized Democratic MPs who fled the state to prevent a vote on Republican electoral integrity laws as "untexan" and said they would be arrested and taken back to the capital immediately upon their return to Texas.
Abbott issued the threat during an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham.
Over 50 Democrats traveled to Washington, D.C. on two flights chartered by the Democratic Caucus of the Texas House at a cost of $ 100,000, according to USA Today, all smiling and traveling to the airport with a box of Miller Lites on the bus.
The move leaves the Texas home without a two-thirds quorum on lawmakers, preventing a vote.
Suffrage laws could be "permanently" blocked if Democratic lawmakers were not in the state for the remainder of the special legislative session.

Abbott, who called the Texas Democrats a "surrender," said lawmakers fled the state because it would have led to their arrest if they had not violated the quorum.
"That's why they fled the state," he said.
"As soon as they return to the state of Texas, they will be arrested and taken to the Texas capital and we will do business," the Republican governor promised.
Some Liberals have suggested Abbott had no power to arrest the Democrats, but the Texas Tribune reports that there is a procedure known as a "call of the house" to "force absent members" in place.

State Representative Dustin Burrows, a Republican who chairs the powerful House Calendars Committee, said he could support such a call.
"It's a sad comment that we may have to use a rule of procedure to try to force most Democrats to show up to do the job they were elected to do," Burrows told the Tribune.

Abbott unloads Democrats
During his appearance on Fox News, Abbott continued to rail against the Texas Democrats for choosing to flee the state instead of doing business on behalf of their constituents.
“Isn't that the most un-Texan thing you've ever heard? Texans fleeing a fight? ”He asked.
"They're slackers," added Abbott. "It's like a football or baseball game, when they take their gear, when they're far back and just leave the field."
That is what I have been waiting for. No appeal to the "better selves" of the Democrats. They don't have a “better self”. Lock them up!

Two Texas Democrats attending the Washington D.C. attended, met with Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) last month to discuss the Filibuster and the For the People Act.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that State Representatives Trey Martinez Fischer and Jasmine Crockett "met with Manchin's chief of staff and legislative director in a 45-minute closed meeting."
Where once denounced a method of avoiding a vote, Fischer and Crockett celebrated sticking the tail and ran out of Texas to do the same.
“It's a now or never for our democracy. We hold the line in Texas, ”said Fischer, according to The Day. “We've given up our jobs, we've left our families, we've left our homes. Because there is nothing more important than voting rights in America. "
Crockett was "one of the first to leave for Washington, D.C.," according to the Houston Chronicle.
"We saw the writing on the wall," she said, suggesting to the Republicans, "that we'd just poke that down our throat and say, 'This is what you get.'"

The Star Telegram goes on to report that the Texas Democrats met with Vice President Kamala Harris last month to discuss federal measures to expand the franchise.
“All citizens have the right to vote. Constitutionally, it is their right, ”Harris said at the beginning of the meeting.
"What we see are examples of trying to encroach on that right and trying to marginalize people and deprive them of a right that has already been granted."

Noting the irony of the Democrats' actions, Abbott said it was “hypocrisy” to attempt “to flee Texas state on a filibuster to ask the President to stop the filibuster in Washington, D.C.
The governor said he would "continue to convene special sessions after special sessions" to force refugees to "vote".
