Ron DeSantis doesn't seem to care much about what's happening in Florida right now. The state is in crisis mode thanks to the delta variant of COVID-19. But the state's governor seems more interested in waging culture wars than fighting the virus.
You'd think DeSantis is doing this because they think it's the best way to become the 2024 GOP nominee. But if things get worse in Florida, and it will, DeSantis will have a lot of eggs on his face.
During a recent interview with Ari Melber, Howard Dean said it won't be long before Republicans take on DeSantis. And if Marco Rubio is one of them, says the former DNC chairman, it could ruin the Florida governors' chances.
Dean began: "He's in no way governable, and he's an embarrassment for any governor, I mean any governor, both Republicans and Democrats. A guy like this should never be in any public authority. The good news for the people of Florida is that people are starting to oppose it. In the past 24 hours, a number of major school districts have ignored DeSantis' insane order. DeSantis is doing this to position himself for the presidential candidacy with the MAGA people, but what he doesn't realize and he's a smart guy.
The Democrat continued: "If Rubio starts to object to DeSantis, you will know that he and his pollsters decided DeSantis has become a liability. That would never have been said four weeks ago, but from a political point of view it is really a catastrophe. It's not just medically bad, it's not just ethically bad, it's politically stupid. "
